Obituary


William Cody Powell, 86, of Charlottesville, entered into eternal rest on November 21, 2016.



As a young man, William served in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He worked for the city of Charlottesville and later worked many years for Payne’s Paving of Scottsville.



William was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Powell, the love of his life; his parents Robert Hogan and Gillious Elizabeth Powell; three brothers, Robert Powell, James Powell, and Lloyd Powell; and sister, Gladys Powell.

Those left to cherish his memory include his brother Clarence Ellis Powell; sister, Mary Jane Lowry-Thacker; and his nine children, Daniel Powell, Glen Powell, Vivian Powell, Lisa Brumfield, Mark Powell, Elaine Skeen, Paul Powell, Patricia Morris, and Naomi Wood. William is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.



“God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, ‘Come to Me.’”



A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 pm Monday, December 5, 2016 at Culpeper National Cemetery.
